The Department of Social Work at NEF College was established in 2009 with the introduction of the Master of Social Work (MSW) programme under Dibrugarh University, followed by the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) programme in 2011. As part of NEF College, the Department is committed to academic excellence, community engagement, and social responsibility.
Guided by the philosophy of social work—“helping people to help themselves”—the Department focuses on developing competent, ethical, and socially responsible professionals. Since Social Work is a practice-oriented discipline, the programmes emphasize experiential learning through fieldwork, community-based interventions, field action projects, and role-play activities.
The BSW programme is offered under the NEP 2020 framework with the CBCS system implemented by Dibrugarh University from the academic session 2023–24. It is a four-year undergraduate programme with multiple entry and exit options. The MSW programme is a two-year postgraduate course designed to provide advanced academic and professional training in social work.
The discipline offers wide career opportunities in government and public welfare sectors, healthcare, education, CSR initiatives, NGOs, community development programmes, academics, and international development agencies. The Department remains committed to preparing socially sensitive and professionally skilled individuals capable of addressing contemporary social challenges and contributing to sustainable development..
